The University of New Mexico’s Department of Art announced contemporary painter Larry Madrigal as the . This prestigious program, named after the influential artist , brings contemporary artists to UNM to engage with students, faculty and the broader Albuquerque arts community. 

Madrigal, a Los Angeles-born, Mexican American painter now based in Phoenix, Arizona, is known for his thought-provoking depictions of everyday life. His work reinterprets historical genre painting through a contemporary lens, exploring themes of masculinity, family life and the complexities of human relationships. His pieces, drawn from his own experiences of starting and raising a family, capture the beauty and struggles of daily existence with remarkable depth and authenticity.
